Photoshoot

Concept ideas

Cough Cough by Everything Everything was a video inspiration for our group as it had many concept ideas that we all found interesting.

Shot idea

Here is a shot idea i liked from a video i watched. The shot involves the background to fade from normal to black and white.

Logo inspirations

Here are some pictures that our band was inspired by:

Reverse shot

We were looking to get a reverse shot in our footage, this could involve smashing a bottle and filming it in reverse.

We liked the idea of the bottle being smash in slow motion to add to the rest of our concept footage.

Music video influence

One song that influenced our location ideas was the river area in Keane - Somewhere only we know.

Locations in the video gave us inspiration - performing in the river.

Production diary - 9/10/15

In this meeting we practiced elements of our performance with our cameras set up and the musical equipment in place. We had elements missing of our equipment such as a keyboard and drum sticks. We also realized we would need a loud speaker to perform effectively as the sound was too quiet and flat and it reflected onto our performance.

Music video inspiration

We was inspired by the LSD music video and was contemplating on using some of the ideas in this video for our own. We all liked the idea of the bright light effects used on the dark streets.

Jake's group feedback

Jake gave us some feedback on our music video idea and what improvements we can make.

  • Implement a structure for our video rather than putting in loads of random footage and shots.
  • Add more footage of a performance element.
  • Make sure the video has some element of a pattern to make the video understandable for the audience.

Day with Pete and Jake

Pete's top tips

Pete gave our group a number of top tips for our music videos.

These tips included:

  • Plan for everything - include storyboard's of all our scenes and shot types, plan all the props, costumes and equipment needed for the video, stay in contact (group chat) throughout the process to explain new ideas to the group and shoot early so we are prepared and organised for when the deadline comes around. Rehearse frequently to make sure actors are comfortable with each part of the performance.
  • Know your equipment - Taking test shots to try out different effects that may enhance the video to the audience, check any tricks of the camera, make sure you use a tripod to maintain steady shots when needed, experiment with editing of the video before the main thing as you may pick up ideas on the way which you can put in and take out any effects you may not like.
  • The shoot - Shoot at least ten times in different set ups to vary the footage you obtain, include many cutaways to keep the audience interested and show shots in more detail eg. using a cutaway of a individual to what they are focusing on, use lots of close ups to display emotion of the performer and extra details of the surroundings. shoot more than you need in-case you feel you don't have enough footage.
  • The edit - look to edit the whole performance rather than focusing on tiny details throughout the video, upload a rough version of your editing to your blog or YouTube to gain feedback on what works and what doesn't and keep cutting.
  • Look elsewhere for tips - Use different blogs and websites to obtain different ideas that you feel will be suitable for your piece of work, many arts and media schools have plenty of ideas on their blogs such as Cranford school wix.
  • The blog - Evaluation of the whole journey, research, planning, construction of all 3 products, finished products uploaded to the blog to gain feedback on your finished task.

Jake's Talk

I learned a lot in the form of working your way to the top in media from Jake's story on how he achieved this.
He looked to get many small tasks from his employers which then developed into them giving him more and more responsibility. Tasks Jake was given responsibility for include being given £500 to direct and edit a performance of a small band.

Concept ideas

  1. Bath tub scene with red paint filling, character with mask.
  2. Misty lake scene, this would involve us camping overnight to obtain this shot we need.
  3. Performance scenes as a band - Me, Steve & Ben.
  4. Images projected onto objects such as the performer being shown as a projected image.

Filming day 1

On our first day of filming we got all our filming gear from Will's house and all the props we needed such as the Bath, buckets for the water, tea towel to cover the plug hole and some red colouring. We then packed everything in the car and made our way to the Long stay car park in Chelmsford.

Me and Steve placed the bath in a suitable place and began filling up the water buckets with water from the river. Will and Ben were shopping for some more red colouring to add to the river water. Ben then came along and helped us out by falling in the river and collecting water.

Once the bath had been filled we kept the water in by putting a rag over the hole and putting a weight over the rag. Tracking shots were then used by Steve hanging out of the car with the Go pro.

The go pro was also used to film shots of me emerging from the bath tub.

Other scenes in our filming involved smashing a beer bottle, eating grass and pouring water over Ben while he was singing.
