Website improvements - Shop page

I have made many changes to my shop page by adding a number of No Individual products. The products I have used are: a hoody, phone case, t-shirt, sweater, cap and satchel.

I feel this was a wide range of products and also unique.

Website improvements - Listen page

Here on my listen page for our website i responded to feedback of the page looks too empty by adding much more detail. I added our MTV interview onto the margin and put a sneak preview for our music video in the middle of the page.

The newspaper article has also been added onto the right margin which i feel gives the page a more professional look rather than looking rushed and unorganised.

First draft final feedback

Positives:

  • Good variety in shots, especially stepping over the camera
  • The bah shot is extremely high quality
  • Good transition, very smooth, good cutting on beat
  • Very good concept
  • Steady shots
  • Good framing of shots throughout the video
  • Very good choice of locations
Negatives:
  • Steve's drumming doesn't sync with the beat of the song
  • Not sure about why there is a Peroni bottle in it
  • Some lip syncing is out of place
  • Colorization needed on some shots
  • Car shot is not needed
  • Not many transitions used
  • Need to re-film the river performance as the quality isn't great

Webiste feedback

This is our feedback for our website from all the other groups.

Positives:

  • Colours look good as they go with the digipack and the music video.
  • Love the moving background of the water
  • Social media links are good as they stand out
  • The Bio's on the band members are short but effective
  • Bands image is portrayed well
Negatives:

  • The home page is too boring as there is no background to it, not drawing any attention
  • There should be an image with the information about each band member so you can identify who is who
  • The moving background of the water should be on each page of the website
  • There needs to be a merchandise page

Album cover ideas

Will was responsible for looking for different album cover ideas and he came across this video on YouTube.

Website update

I have made a few changes to our website such as adding the bands logo onto the home page and filling out the empty margins to make the site look more interesting and attractive to the audience. This was my reaction to feedback as many people said they felt the home page was too bland and boring.

logo design

Ben finally created a logo for our band, he used the bands general colours in this logo with the letters 'NI'.

Reaction to feedback

The feedback I chose to act on was the criticism of the background on the home page. Many people said they liked the background on the band page so i decided to apply this to the home page as well and add a countdown gadget to make the site look more professional.

I also added another band picture onto the margins to make the page look less empty and more interesting.

Change of design

For our website I have changed the design as i feel it is more effective in displaying the themes we are trying to get across to the audience.
I have chose the black background as it helps display our dark appearance which is shown through our lyrics and music video. This background also links in better with our personalities and the concept ideas we try and portray.

Jake Wynne's advice

On the day where Jake Wynne came into our school and gave us advice on our music video. He said to us that we need to make sure our video follows some sort of pattern and structure rather than just using lots of random concept ideas that don't follow a certain theme throughout.

Because of this advice we have made a lot of changes to our video and added many different aspects to make our video more clear to the audience rather than them being confused. We have added many more performance aspects to our video and have filmed in a couple different locations. The performance aspects in our video have highlighted to the audience that we are a serious indie band with a unique theme throughout the video. This has been shown by following a concept theme showing we are unique and interesting showing things many other bands haven't shown before.

We also began to follow a theme of water by filming in a number of locations such as a river and swimming pool. We have also implemented other ideas that link to our theme with shots of us smashing bottles with water in and using premiere to slow down flow of water.

Track list

Steve was in charge of creating the digipack and putting the track list. The numbers for the tracks are written in Roman Numerals further highlighting a concept theme through the process.
The picture used in this photo is not the original that will be used on the Digipack.

Steve drum performance

Yesterday we filmed some more performance elements for our video with some tracking shots of Steve playing the drums. We filmed this out on the school field and made sure we had no houses or school facilities in the background. We filmed this on the field because this adds to our concept idea but also adds some more pattern into our video due to the performance.

Website - Guns N Roses

I feel this is an effective website. They clearly show the bands logo in the top of the page next to the navigation bar.
The background picture is effective as it shows a picture of the band performing at a live venue, this shows the bands popularity as a packed crowd enjoying the music is shown.
The bar at the bottom matches the bands logo colour showing some sort of pattern to their band. The colour red could con-notate blood or even roses due to the blood relating to the guns and the red also relating to the roses in their band name. This makes me picture the colour red when thinking of this band and looking at their website.

Website research

I liked this idea for a website as the bands colour scheme is kept throughout the page. The front page is very simple but effective due to the text and the bands picture. The bands picture is very casual and looks as if it was taken in a photo booth which i feel is very effective as it gives you a glimpse of the bands personality showing their relaxed approached.

Halfway Evaluation

This week we had be set with the task of making a halfway evaluation. This would include all our group members making a powerpoint with a preview of what we've been getting up to in the past weeks. This involves showing snippets of our website, twitter account and showing a clip of our MTV interview.

Magazine article template

This is the template we decided on to base our article around. The big picture in the middle of the article is eye catching and draws our audience to read the section about us. Information included in the article include tour dates, how the band formed and music inspirations.

Magazine article ideas

Ben was in charge of finding inspirations for our magazine. He looked at articles such as NME and Radar. This was appropriate as many bands similar to ours have used these platforms. Bands include Everything Everything and SBTRKT.

Website planning

Similar artist websites - Artic Monkeys

This website lay out had ideas i wanted to incorporate into the website i am currently making. The website keeps all navigation around the website at the top of the page above a picture/video of the band. I liked the idea of this website deign as it highlights similar areas in which our band is also trying to get across. The dark background used here could give off dark themes to the band and connects to our concept thought process. We have looked to keep our website simple to add effect to it like you can see in the artic monkeys site above.

Magazine article planning

As a group we had a list of what we felt should be included in our magazine article. This was our planning stage before we made the article properly.

As a band we had a list of what we felt needed to be included in our magazine article:

  1. Information on the band
  2. Black and white title
  3. Editors name
  4. Making the band relate able to the audience
  5. Names and publication dates
  6. Upcoming tours
  7. Subtitles

Photoshoot

Concept ideas

Cough Cough by Everything Everything was a video inspiration for our group as it had many concept ideas that we all found interesting.

Shot idea

Here is a shot idea i liked from a video i watched. The shot involves the background to fade from normal to black and white.

Logo inspirations

Here are some pictures that our band was inspired by:

Reverse shot

We were looking to get a reverse shot in our footage, this could involve smashing a bottle and filming it in reverse.

We liked the idea of the bottle being smash in slow motion to add to the rest of our concept footage.

Music video influence

One song that influenced our location ideas was the river area in Keane - Somewhere only we know.

Locations in the video gave us inspiration - performing in the river.

Production diary - 9/10/15

In this meeting we practiced elements of our performance with our cameras set up and the musical equipment in place. We had elements missing of our equipment such as a keyboard and drum sticks. We also realized we would need a loud speaker to perform effectively as the sound was too quiet and flat and it reflected onto our performance.

Music video inspiration

We was inspired by the LSD music video and was contemplating on using some of the ideas in this video for our own. We all liked the idea of the bright light effects used on the dark streets.

Jake's group feedback

Jake gave us some feedback on our music video idea and what improvements we can make.

  • Implement a structure for our video rather than putting in loads of random footage and shots.
  • Add more footage of a performance element.
  • Make sure the video has some element of a pattern to make the video understandable for the audience.
